A Worthwhile Hobby

A mother of four, now five, with a husband who recently lost his job, was able to rely on couponing to help support her family. Having a large family and not having a lot of money to spend on groceries can become a very dangerous situation. One smart woman decided to take the experiences her mother taught her in her youth and apply them to her own family so they would always have the things they needed to survive. She knew about couponing growing up because her mother always did it, but when she got married and had children she never put much thought into it until her husband lost her job and they had to survive on their savings. With their savings quickly dwindling away, she began to take advantage of all the little savings in the paper she could find. She would even borrow from neighbors that didn’t use their coupons. Over the years it became more natural and instinctive.

Learning how to work the system, find the best deals, how to avoid wasted time and money are some of the refined skills that came out of years of practice. All the while a significant storage for this family is constantly in progress which allows for future preparedness in case of another emergency. This woman’s sacrifice was well worth the time and money saved over the years. She told a story of a time when she went to the store and the cashier, whom she knew fairly well, was shocked when the total was $45. She thought there was a mistake somewhere and was sure she had missed something because her total was never more than $30 when she came in. If we learn these skills and stick with them, we will learn the ropes, refine our techniques, and ultimately save ourselves a lot of money on groceries!
